What is the most important factor for successful relationships?

At this relatively very young age with limited experience, I have been contemplating and assessing which aspect of a relationship is non-negotiable, something that is indisputable.

Most people think it is loyalty, commitment, or respect. I entirely agree. That’s indeed the bedrock of a relationship, the foundation of it. However, when it comes to making a relationship work, I believe there is more to it than just these qualities.

Although I have a feeling that this thought is accurate, I am uncertain about the exact answer to this critical question. I have witnessed numerous unhappy couples and failed marriages, making me hesitant to confidently define a successful relationship.

But I needed to find the answer. I needed to know in order to make mine successful. I was drowning in my own thoughts and at a loss for words until someone asked me, “What drew you to him? What qualities does he possess that allow him to occupy your thoughts so completely?”

It took me quite a moment — to rethink everything. Eventually, I answered; the conversation, our conversation. With him, the conversation has always been easy. Talking with him has always been effortless, as his viewpoints never fail to intrigue me. His smile when he listens to my views brings me immense joy. And his stares, his stares are as intense as someone who adores another.

Ensuring a successful relationship depends on effective communication, which is absolutely crucial. The way we express our emotions is important and can have a significant impact. By being able to do so, we can gain a better understanding of our partner and make compromises if necessary.

And I am fascinated with our ability to engage in meaningful conversations, ranging from lighthearted subjects to weighty issues; from everyday reminders to political matters. I feel like I can confide in you about anything. It’s as though I’ve stumbled upon a best friend, a partner, and a lover all in one.

Getting to know you is something I didn’t plan. Being comfortable to converse with you is something I didn’t expect. And falling for you is something I am unable and unwilling to manage.

It happened, just happened because of our endless, uncurated, and meaningful conversation.
